Considering a move to Huntsville, Alabama? Unless you are from around here, most people have common misconceptions about the state of Alabama. No, we do not all walk around barefoot or live on a farm with cows & chickens.  As a resident for 27 years, I am here to tell you that this place is filled with amazing people, gorgeous views, & GREAT food.

Not only does it have more to offer than you would think, Huntsville was rated the 11th best place to live in the U.S. in 2019 by the U.S. News and World Report and it is continuing to grow each day at a rapid pace.

Below are a few reasons why Huntsville has been ranked best places to live!

Fun Facts:

Huntsville’s Population: 197,318

Metro Population: 462,693

Median Home Value: $$183,387

#1. Cost & Quality of Living

Homes for sale in Huntsville are some of the most affordable in the nation. You can find a starter home in a decent part of Huntsville for under $200,000! On top of the incredible housing market, crime ratings, healthcare availability/cost, quality of education, well-being and commute times are rated among the best.

#2. Location

Huntsville, also known as the “Rocket City”, gained national recognition during the Space Race of the 1960’s and is now the fastest-growing metro area in Alabama. The U.S. government relocated a team of rocket scientists to the area and opened a NASA center that would design the Saturn V, the rocket that sent Apollo astronauts to the moon. It is located in North Alabama and is close to multiple major cities. It is 1.5 hours from Nashville and Birmingham as well as a little over 3 hours from Atlanta, Memphis and Knoxville. Not to mention, a short drive to the beautiful Gulf Coast Beaches!

#3. Job Market

Facebook, Google, Toyota, Mazda, LG, & multiple rocket manufacturers and even the FBI are moving jobs to the “Rocket City.” Google & Facebook are spending over 1 BILLION dollars to bring data centers near Huntsville. The FBI announced it is moving many of its operations to Redstone Arsenal, which will ultimately bring over 4,000 jobs to the area. Toyota-Mazda has opened a plant in Limestone County that has brought over 3,000 jobs to the area.

#4. Schools

If you’re considering moving to Huntsville, you’ll want to think about the Huntsville City schools your children, or future children, will be attending. The district oversees 36 schools: 21 PreK-elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 7 high schools, and 2 magnet schools. Forbes recently ranked Huntsville as one of the Top 25 most educated cities in America. Thanks to the educational demands of the aerospace and engineering jobs that dominate our cities economy.

#5. Entertainment

Last, but certainly not least, Huntsville offers a number of restaurants, breweries, & attractions for you and your family! Whether you are looking for a place for date night, a fun night out or family get-to-together this city has a spot for you. I have listed a couple of my favorites below.
